Donkey Kong Original Edition / Pie Factory Cement Factory for NES Nintendo Game Cartridge

Donkey Kong: Pie Factory Edition is a ROM hack of the classic Donkey Kong game for the NES. In essence, it’s a modified version of the original game that restores a level that was missing from the official NES release.

It’s not a commercially released Nintendo game in the traditional retail sense.

In the original 1981 arcade version of Donkey Kong, there are four distinct stages: barrels, the conveyor belt level (often called the “pie factory” or cement factory), elevators, and rivets. However, when Donkey Kong was officially ported to the NES in the 1980s, the pie/cement factory stage was omitted, likely due to hardware limitations like memory space and sprite handling challenges on the NES hardware.

Because of how the conveyor belts and moving objects worked in that arcade stage, it was technically harder to fit into the limited ROM space of many home ports.

The ROM hack restores that missing stage and integrates it into the NES game, effectively completing the set of levels that more closely matches the arcade experience. That’s why this version is colloquially called the “Pie Factory” edition.
