A-Team - Atari 2600, Atari 2600+ & Atari 7800+

The A-Team for the Atari 2600 is a legendary unreleased prototype game from 1984, developed by Atari, Inc. It was created as a tie-in to the popular 1980s television show but was never officially released, largely due to the video game crash of 1983–1985.

Key Aspects of The A-Team (Atari 2600):

  • Gameplay & Development: The game is a graphic hack of another unreleased Atari 2600 game called Saboteur, designed by Howard Scott Warshaw (who also designed E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and Yars' Revenge).

  • The Player Character: The player controls a floating, disembodied head representing Mr. T's character, B.A. Baracus, shooting at enemies.

  • Objectives & Levels: The game features three main, repeating levels that involve saving fellow A-Team members like Murdock, stopping a nuclear warhead, and fighting enemies.

  • Audio & Visuals: Upon losing a life, the game plays a rendition of The A-Team theme song.

  • Availability: While never sold at retail, functional prototypes exist and have been displayed at gaming expos and in collections, often circulating as ROM files in the retro gaming community.

Although The A-Team itself was never released, the original game it was based on, Saboteur, was later discovered and eventually released on Atari Flashback consoles.
